I spent hours trying to answer this.
Surely, somewhere in all the years I’ve lived, there must be one day I would choose to have again.
There are moments, of course.
A laugh I’d like to hear twice.
A place I’d stand in a little longer.
A version of someone I’d like to see again.
But an entire day?
That’s asking a lot of my past.
My past has never been particularly kind to me. Even the beautiful moments often lived between things I was surviving, grieving, fearing, or trying desperately to understand.
So I searched my memory—childhood, adolescence, adulthood—trying to find twenty-four hours I would willingly step back into from beginning to end.
And I couldn’t.
There is something profoundly sad about realizing you have lived an entire life without experiencing a single day, you ache to repeat.
But maybe there is something hopeful in it, too.
Maybe my favorite day isn’t behind me.
Maybe I haven’t lived it yet.
Be'ahava,
The Mourning Bird
